Derek Jeter Eyeballing Chelsea Rental
By Lucas on Dec 17, 2012
Derek Jeter, the superstar American shortstop for the New York Yankees, is homeless! Oh my!
No, not really, we’re sure he has plenty of homes, like his outrageous 30,000 square foot mansion in Tampa, but Jeter is looking for a new place to live in Manhattan.
Last October, Jeter sold his fancy East Side penthouse for a whopping $15.5 million. The apartment is located in the Trump World Tower, and features 5,400 square feet of living space. We don’t have all the details of Jeter’s former penthouse, but we assume it was ultra luxurious, especially since it was in one of Trump’s buildings.
Jeter sold that East Side apartment, but didn’t end up purchasing another one, and it looks like he’s not going to! Jeter is actually eyeballing a hip rental apartment in the very trendy Chelsea neighbourhood, which is known for its historical architecture, refurbished warehouses, and classy art galleries.
The 4,000 square foot duplex rental unit is located in the Chelsea Quarter Condominium building, and features five bedrooms and four bathrooms. What is the rent you ask? Oh, just $25,000 a month - no big deal. Obviously, $25,000 a month is peanuts for Jeter considering he’s one of the highest paid players in the MLB, plus he’s currently playing on a $51 million contract with the Yankees.
NOTE: Jeter has not acquired this Chelsea rental yet, but it is rumoured that it’s topping his list of possibilities.
The only question we have about this whole thing is, why is he just renting? Sure, it may be easier to just pay rent, rather than go through the process of owning, but he’s going to be throwing away $25,000 a month, and he won’t get it back! It just seems silly to rent, when you can easily afford at least a down payment; then when he’s done with it, he can sell it, and make a profit, or at least get some money back!
Well, we’re sure Derek Jeter knows what he’s doing, so we won’t question his choices any further. We hope he gets that Chelsea apartment that he wants!
