Daniels Welcomes Homeowners to the High Park Neighbourhood
By Lucas on Jun 02, 2014
Newinhomes.com attended the second “Love Where You Live Homeowner Event Series” for Daniels’ HighPark Condominiums. The first event focused on discussing details of the actual building, and this one was about how amazing the High Park neighbourhood is.
Alex Ling
HighPark homeowners gathered at Grenadier Restaurant to hear from a great panel of speakers before heading out on a guided sunset walking tour through the park. The first speaker was Alex Ling, Past Chair of Bloor West Village BIA, who discussed the history of the BIA and his endeavours to get solar power technology implemented in the neighbourhood.
Philip Cheong
The second speaker was Philip Cheong from Colborne Lodge, who discussed the history of High Park, which dates back to the early 1800s, highlighting monumental moments in history. Did you know that John George Howard purchased a 160-acre property back in 1836 for a whopping $1,000 with the intention to start a sheep farm, and then built Colborne Lodge a year later?
Robin Sorys
Robin Sorys from HighPark.org listed off many activities and services that the High Park neighbourhood has to offer, including chidlren’s playgrounds, picnic areas, the zoo which was established in 1893, a labyrinth, an off-leash area for dogs, an outdoor ice rink in the winter, and a number of sports courts. She also mentioned that High Park has a chess house, where you can find friendly seniors playing chess all year round. That’s right, there’s no season for chess, it’s always a good time for a game.
Natalie Harder
The last speaker was Natalie Harder from the High Park Nature Centre who discussed the unique species residing in High Park, and told everyone about the nature appreciation workshops offered for children and adults. After her presentation she lead everyone on the walking tour.
