UPDATE: Corktown Common Officially Open!
By Lucas on Jul 07, 2014
One of the best ways to beat the summer heat in Toronto is to hang out in one of the city’s great parks. You have the staples to choose from, like High Park and Trinity Bellwoods, and on July 10, you’ll have one more to add to your list!
On July 10, Dundee Kilmer, Waterfront Toronto, and their government partners are cutting the ribbon for the official opening of Corktown Common in Toronto’s quickly developing east end. Everyone is gathering at the pavillion in the park at 10 am to celebrate the opening!
What? You can’t make the ribbon cutting because you work on Thursday mornings? Don’t worry, head over after work for the very first Corktown Common Party which is going on from 5 pm to 8 pm. There will be food, music, and fun activities for everyone!
Living near Corktown Common
Located at the foot of Bayview Avenue, near Lower River Street, some west end dwellers may consider Corktown Common too far to travel for a sunny afternoon park hangout with friends. Well, Corktown Common has a lot that other Toronto parks don’t have, like natural marsh land, a toboggan hill, a stylish pavillion, and a brand new playground.

People who won’t find Corktown Common too far away are the future residents of Canary District, River City, and Bayside Toronto. Dundee Kilmer recently launched Canary Park, a new condo that rests right on the edge of Corktown Common, and Canary District Condos is just down the road, and there are three more market condos planned for the neighbourhood.
Aqualina by Tridel
In Bayside Toronto, Tridel has launched Aqualina, and by the time the master-plan is fully complete, there will be nearly 2,000 residential units right on the lake, all within walking distance of the park.
The River City condos by Urban Capital are just as close to the park as the new condos in Canary District. This year, River City 1 took the top prize at the Pug Awards (meaning the people of Toronto voted it the best designed building).

Of course, there will be other people using the park while these master-plans work towards completion. Residents of the St. Lawrence Market and Distillery District aren’t too far away, and there are a number of condos going up in the east end, including King & Parliament by Great Gulf and Axiom Condos by Fieldgate and Greenpark.
So, if you live in the east end (or feel like going for a bike ride from the west end) and you’re looking for a new, amazing park, Corktown Common should top your list of parks to visit this summer!
