Ludmila Manykina and her husband Peter Elias are no strangers to buying real estate. For the past decade, they have invested in properties to round out their financial portfolio.
A few months ago, they read about
Skyline International Development plans for
Horseshoe Resort & Village, and they were intrigued. When Copeland House - the first new whole-ownership condo to be added as part of Skyline’s master plan for the Horseshoe community – came on the market, they jumped at the chance to own a suite. “We have a cottage in the area,” Ludmila says, “and we love it there. We have visited Horseshoe many times, and we’ve seen how relaxed people are at the resort. The location is amazing, with nature and fresh air all around.”
At first, they were interested in Skyline’s opportunity for owners to place their suites into Horseshoe’s rental program and receive rental revenue when they are not in residence. “We thought we would buy the condo and move in when we retire,” Ludmila says. “All the amenities are there, and we wouldn’t need to mow lawns. It would be like heaven. If we decide to rent until then, the resort would handle finding tenants and collecting rent. It would be so convenient. But now we are thinking maybe we will move in earlier and live there. I can commute to Toronto; it’s only an hour away.”
Part of this passion comes from the couple and their 22-year-old daughter using the VIP Card they already received, which enables purchasers to start using the resort immediately. The VIP Card includes a 10 per cent discount on food and beverages at any of the Horseshoe Resort restaurants; unlimited access to the pool and gym; discounts on skiing, golfing, the Adventure Park; and more. “I love skiing,” Ludmila says, “and I have already taken a couple golf lessons. We have used the pool and trails, and our daughter enjoys biking there. Peter loves the countryside. We know we will be happy there.”
The VIP Card is in addition to the SkyLife Club membership owners receive on closing. Valued at $25,000, this membership provides them with unlimited skiing, golfing, adventure and perks at Horseshoe, Deerhurst Resort and other Skyline Hotels and Resorts properties. “I am a very active person,” Ludmila explains. “I can’t just sit at home and do nothing. At Horseshoe, I will always have something fun and interesting to do.” The resort features 29 alpine ski and snowboard runs, two golf courses, a practice green and 10-acre driving range, five restaurants, a Shizen Spa and Salon, hot tubs, saunas, 67.5 km of trails, a terrain park, Segway Tours, ATVing, Treetop Trekking, snowmobiling, a Kid’s Korral and an Adventure Park with Canada’s only OGO park (jump inside a 3-metre inflatable ball and roll down a hill), a zipline, skateboarding, mini golf and climbing tower.
Ludmila is a business service coordinator at a major university, and Peter is a semi-retired barber. They selected the one-bedroom Highlands suite that can, in fact, sleep four. “The suite looks out onto the golf course,” Ludmila says, “and it has an extra-large balcony. It’s beautiful!” As for their purchase experience, she has high praise for the service and attention they have received. “It has been amazing. The sales representative took time with us and explained everything. We never felt pressured. This is the completely perfect location for us, and we are really excited.”
Peter and Ludmila bought in the sold-our first phase of Copeland House. There are still suites available in Copeland House Phase II, and they are going quickly with prices starting at just $199,900!
