Construction Tour of FIVE Condos
By Lucas on Jul 29, 2013
On July 25, 2013, we headed up to Yonge and Wellesley in Toronto to take a tour of the FIVE Condos construction site. We were met by Project Coordinator David Naismith, who played tour guide for us.
Construction progress at FIVE Condos
We started at the ground floor. We stood in the unfinished lobby, and already, you can tell that the entrance to FIVE Condos is going to be grand. Naismith explained that they are gutting everything out from behind the Yonge St. facade, so the historical front will remain the same, but FIVE’s lobby and commercial/retail space will extend all the back to where the tower starts.
We then went up to the fifth floor, the highest point of construction at the moment. Naismith said that the fifth floor is the most complex floor that the crew will have to build because of the landscaping elements and outdoor terraces. After the fifth floor is complete, it will be smooth sailing all the way up to the 50th floor (48 of which are residential).
On our way down to the ground floor, Naismith expressed his excitement about the construction along St. Nicholas St., where there will be more retail space and a brick road that will be closed off to traffic.
We also got the chance to walk through where the 14 Historic Suites will be. Most of them are located on the second and third floors above the commercial/retail components.
We asked Naismith if the severe weather Toronto experienced over the last month caused any issues. Naismith explained that they have been lucky with the storms and there hasn’t been any flooding or anything, but the heat has been tough to deal with. Despite the extreme weather, the construction workers at FIVE Condos have pushed forward and remain on track for a March 2015 completion.
In total, FIVE Condos will be comprised of 50,000 cubic metres of concrete and 8 million pounds of reinforced steel, and it all adds up to one stunning condo.
About FIVE Condos
Developed by Graywood Developments and MOD Developments, FIVE Condos is one of Toronto’s most highly anticipated condo projects. The combination of modern-contemporary design and a heritage structure is what makes FIVE Condos stand out the most. Preserving Toronto’s history is very important when it comes to developing in the city, and we are glad that Graywood and MOD are using it to their advantage.
There will be 539 total suites at FIVE Condos, with sizes ranging from 399 to 1,683 square feet. A few of the spectacular interior features and finishes include 9’ ceilings, pre-finished hardwood flooring, Miele appliance packages, contemporary cabinetry, porcelain, glass, and ceramic tiling, granite or corian countertops, and a number of custom designs by renowned interior design firm Cecconi Simone.
FIVE Condo’s neighbourhood
Located at 5 St. Joseph, just north of Wellesley along Yonge, FIVE Condos is occupying one of Toronto’s most desirable neighbourhoods. At FIVE Condos you’ll be just steps away from all the shopping of Bloor West, as well as the high-end amenities of Yorkville. FIVE Condos is also within a close proximity to the beautiful University of Toronto campus, the hustle and bustle of the Financial District, and also a number of parks.
If any other part of Toronto is ever desired, Wellesley Subway Station is only a few steps away, and the College Streetcar is just a few more.
Because of FIVE Condos’ great design and amazing location, we are very excited for this condo to be completed! Stay tuned, we will be keeping a close eye on FIVE Condos as it rises over the coming years.
