City to Increase Enforcement of Construction Activity on Toronto Streets

The City of Toronto recently announced that they will be “increasing its enforcement of construction activity taking place within the City’s right-of-way.” We’re going to break down this news into two separate sections for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, and for developers and construction crews.
Drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists
Good news users of the city streets, the City of Toronto is cracking down on the tidiness of construction sites. The initiative started this week. From a news release:
“City staff will be making sure construction sites are cleared of litter and other debris, construction vehicles are parked in the proper locations, hoarding is properly located, and that signing and other traffic control measures are clearly visible, working properly and in the correct locations.”
If you frequently find your lane blocked by cement trucks or your sidewalk obstructed by tools and materials, hopefully that won’t be the case for much longer.
You can help the City ensure construction sites are tidy and safe by reporting any potential hazards by calling 311. When you call, make sure you know the exact location so that the City can respond as quick as possible.
Developers and construction crews
Get ready for a bunch of visits from City officials. Even if your construction site is as clean as possible, people will be calling in about one thing or another because it’s impossible to please every single early morning commuter in a city booming with new development.
Just make sure your trucks and materials aren’t blocking any sidewalks, lanes, or visibility of road signs, and there shouldn’t be issues from the City. We believe that most developers and construction crews already do a pretty good job keeping the Toronto streets safe from the hazards of their constructions sites, but you can never be too careful!
