Charity home decor sale raising money for McMaster Children's Hospital

Ever wonder what builders and developers do with all the furniture and decor items that they use for their model suites and model homes? Truth is, we’re not entirely sure, but what we do know is that Reid’s Heritage Homes is getting some good use out of it all.
On Saturday, September 19th from 8 am to 1 pm, Reid’s Heritage Homes is hosting a huge Charity Home Decor Sale at their head office in Cambridge at 6783 Wellington Road 34 (there will be event direction signs off exits 295 Hwy 6 North, 299 Hwy 6 South, and Townline Road).
There will be a wide variety of items for sale, including model home furniture and other gently used furniture, decor items, and even clothing (the event is cash & carry only). Sweet Temptations Cupcakery will be onsite serving up some delicious treats, and The Farmhouse Kitchen will be serving pancakes & sausages as well as lunch. It will definitely be fun for the whole family! You can preview a few of the items that will be available at this Facebook page.
100% of the funds from the Charity Home Decor Sale are going towards the Caring for Little Kidneys Campaign for MacKids, which is aiming to build a new Children’s Nephrology (kidneys and dialysis) Clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital, the hospital that serves children in much of South Western and South Central Ontario.
“We need your help to raise $650,000 so that children who suffer from urgent or acute kidney problems that need lifesaving dialysis have a special, modern clinic where they can receive this care,” says a letter from Charlotte and Tim Blevins, parents of a girl who was saved by the team at McMaster Children’s Hospital. “A clinic that takes into consideration the unique needs around infection control and patient comfort. The redeveloped clinic will be state-of-the-art with every aspect of the patient and family experience being taken into consideration.”
Charlotte and Tim’s daughter, Kayla, suffered from kidney failure due to a very serious E. coli infection in 2011, and the MacKids team saved her life. This is what spurred the Blevins to commit to raising the money to help redevelop the Clinic.
“The Caring for Little Kidneys Campaign was established by Charlotte and I to provide the best environment and equipment for the many children that will need the same treatment as our daughter,” says Tim in a story on hamiltonhealth.ca. “We know firsthand how difficult this experience can be. While Kayla only had to spend a few weeks on dialysis, many children are not as lucky. We know what a difference these new facilities will make.”
“It is so important to our Corporate Culture that we, as a team, give back to the communities in which we work,” adds Doug Sider, Vice-President of Team Development, Resources and Corporate Culture at Reid’s Heritage Homes. “We are a family company. It is in our corporate DNA to look out for the families of our team members, the families who live within our communities, and the families whose children require specialized care from MacKids. Initiatives like the Caring for Little Kidneys Campaign mean a lot to our team members too – they are each so giving by nature that coming together for an important cause is so natural to them.”
So if you’re looking for a good deal on some new home decor pieces and want to contribute to a great cause at the same time, head out to Reid’s Heritage Homes’ head office on September 19th any time from 8 am to 1 pm!
