If you’re wondering why all the fun-lovers in your office are walking around with their heads hanging low, it probably has something to do with INK Entertainment’s official announcement that they’re closing the Guvernment and Koolhaus for good.Though we’re sad to see Canada’s longest running club, great music venue and city staple close down, we can’t wait to see what condo developers are going to do with such a large piece of prime Toronto real estate! Located on the Queens Quay, we assume Waterfront Toronto is including this land in their plans to revitalize the area, making way for more businesses, market condominiums, restaurants and shops.Between the two clubs, over 7,000 concerts were held over the years. It’s hard to fathom a Toronto without a place like the Guv. “We didn’t make this decision,” says INK Entertainment’s CEO Charles Khabouth, the club’s parent company. “It was kind of made for us. The building was sold. I tried to buy it with my partners, but we couldn’t cut a deal.”
If you’re a #guvlife enthusiast, you’ll have until January 31, 2015 to show your #guvluv and then it’ll be the end of an era, but maybe you can be one of the first to buy a unit where the party really never has to stop (assuming that a condo is proposed for the site)! Khabouth told reporters in a press release that "The Guvernment is one of my proudest achievements and after such a long-lasting journey with such fond memories, we want to thank all those who made it possible and shared in our successes.”
