From Fieldgate Homes
Unlike a Monet or Picasso, interior designers seldom get to sign their works. Yet Bryon Patton and top level designers like him regularly imbue Toronto's finest new condominiums with their own signature style and sense of artistry.
Patton and his experienced team of designers at Bryon Patton and Associates were commissioned by Fieldgate Homes to do the interior design for the company's premier downtown condominium, and the results are impressive.
Bryon recently took some time from his incredibly hectic schedule to talk to us.
What market are you trying to appeal to with your interior design at 90 Niagara?
BP: Fieldgate is creating a building with a great variety of suite layouts, suitable for a variety of purchasers. So in our team's interior design for the project, we wanted to appeal to the both the younger professional singles and couples as well as to the more mature purchaser looking for a cool, carefree condominium home in this vibrant neighbourhood.
The lobby is where you traditionally get to make that first impression on people. How have you handled it at 90 Niagara?
BP: Our interiors are reflective of the design language of the building architecture. At 90 Niagara, we welcome residents and their guests with a boutique style lobby appointed with large scale porcelain tile floors, Italian metallic graphic textured walls, warm walnut wood accents in the panelling, and cool retro lighting fixtures.
What kind of environment have you designed for the building's party room?
BP: The overall look has an uncluttered aesthetic – chic yet casual. It features hardwood floors, a geometric patterned fireplace feature wall, lounge seating and bar areas. With a colour palette of warm taupes, charcoal greys and accents of copper, it will be a very sexy space to relax and socialize.
How about outdoor living space…somewhere to escape the city?
BP: The suites all have balconies or lofts which will provide ample opportunity to extend one's living space. But we've also created a fantastic outdoor terrace that features eat, dine and play areas, with landscaping that includes a "living wall" feature.
It's not just 90 Niagara's common areas where you've brought your design skills…how have you contributed to the interior design of the suites themselves?
BP: We've put together three packages which offer the purchaser a wide selection of beautiful, well co-ordinated options, for a variety of colour preferences. Each package provides a well-designed base for layering on their own personality with furnishings, art and accessories – hardwood floors, porcelain tile bath floors, ceramic tiled tub/shower walls with a 2-colour detail. Kitchens feature high gloss euro style wood grain laminate cabinetry with quartz countertops. The finishes are up to date, but not trendy and there's an emphasis on texture rather than colour.
You obviously spent a considerable amount of time on the Model Suite as well. Tell us a little about it.
BP: The model suite demonstrates that you can live comfortably and beautifully at 90 Niagara. Our team created a space that is absolutely inviting. The furnishings are chic – classic modern with a slight vintage twist. The palette is comprised of neutral tones of driftwood, grey, sand. And it's all punched up with some striking accents in art and accessories.
In the end, what sets 90 Niagara apart from the rest in Toronto's Downtown West neighbourhood?
BP: It's always great to flex our design muscles to create a cool, sophisticated urban design, but at the same time a warm, welcoming residential ambiance. Like its lobby and amenities, 90 Niagara is boutique style and intimate but packed with function and style! To register and learn more about 90 Niagara, click here!
