Block Party at The Canary District
By Lucas on May 30, 2013
Once complete, The Canary District will be one of Toronto’s best and most vibrant neighbourhoods. The area will feature a healthy mixture of open green spaces, retail components, new condos, and of course, the recently topped-off 82,000-square-foot YMCA building. In celebration of topping-off, the YMCA invited future residents and friends out to the neighbourhood’s first block party.

Like any block party, the area was peppered with a variety of fun and games for all ages. YMCA provided Toronto’s most sought-after food trucks, live music, activities for the kids, and more, all in honour of this brand new community, and of course, the topping-off of Toronto’s newest and largest YMCA. The sense of community expressed at the block party is a great sign of what the neighbourhood will eventually become.Michael Chan comments on the topping-off of the YMCA“The inclusion of the YMCA in the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletes’ Village will be a lasting legacy that will not only provide athletes with an excellent training centre at Games-time, it will also provide much-needed access to health and fitness activities for the diverse communities it will serve thereafter. This, along with the Village’s transformation into a vibrant, sustainable, mixed-use neighbourhood post-Games, furthers the province’s vision to help build strong, healthy communities across Ontario,” said Michael Chan, minister responsible for the Pan/Parapan American Games.Toronto’s new YMCA
Built to LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) green building standards, the new YMCA facility will offer youth and community activities, gymnasium, swimming pool, fitness studios, and other exercise areas. It will also include an accessible green roof to create an additional 11,000 square feet of outdoor space.Congrats to our friends over at The Canary District on this wonderful achievement. What has been accomplished over such a short period of time is truly inspirational. To find out more about The Canary District, including its recently announced MyHome Program for first-time buyers, check out the project page on NewInHomes.com and register for more information.
