BILD Raises $60,000 for Habitat for Humanity GTA

Between July 8th and 13th, the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) raised $60,000 for Habitat for Humanity GTA with three marquee events. Habitat Week consisted of the 6th annual Race for Humanity, BILD’s annual barbecue event, and Stephen’s Ride for Humanity.
23 teams participated in the Race for Humanity, which consisted of a scavenger hunt through Toronto. The teams also had to get creative and build structures taller than their shortest member, they had to put their marksmanship skills to the test with a balloon archery event, and they even had to compete in sumo wrestling matches in a public park. Sounds like a pretty fun day!
The Race ended on BILD’s front lawn where the 23rd annual BILD barbecue was hosted. Over 500 industry professionals, from builders and developers to trades and designers, attended and participated in the contests and games designed to raise money for Habitat GTA. There was also a silent auction and a dunk tank, which everyone found very entertaining.

The third event, Stephen’s Ride for Humanity, took place at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, where cycling enthusiasts sped along the 4 km outdoor track. This was the 5th annual Stephen’s ride for Humanity, and team registrations and sponsors are to thank for the event’s great success.
“We are proud of our community partnership with Habitat for Humanity GTA and since 2003, BILD members have raised more than $825,000 for Habitat and have helped 12 partner families realize their dream of homeownership,” says BILD President and CEO Bryan Tuckey in a recent release. “BILD members work hard every day to build complete communities across GTA and this is another way we can work together, with our Habitat partners, to make sure that anyone who wants to own a home, can do so.”

As an industry that contributes and affects to the GTA on a daily basis in such a significant way, it is important that everyone gives a little back. Habitat for Humanity GTA relies on community volunteers, donations, and events like these three to provide affordable homeownership for families in need. A big thank you goes out to the major sponsors, Toronto Star, In2ition Realty, Bell, Caesarstone, and all the other sponsors and volunteers that helped make this year’s Habitat Week a huge success!
“BILD’s Habitat Week is a true testament of their dedication and ongoing commitment to Habitat GTA’s mission of providing affordable homeownership to families living in need across the GTA,” says Ene Underwood, CEO, Habitat for Humanity GTA. “Our 12-year partnership has created a profound impact and we congratulate all BILD members on the active support this week and each year.”
We’re super proud of what the new home industry was able to achieve in just one week! If you have any photos from the event, feel free to share them with us on Facebook or Twitter!
