Once again, we find ourselves in the new home industry's awards season! The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD), as well as Tarion, Ontario’s new home warranty corporation, have announced the finalists of their respective awards.
The 36th annual BILD Awards

Every year, BILD hosts an evening of awards, dinner, and entertainment; it is probably the most widely attended industry awards ceremony in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Last year, over 1,000 industry professionals attended, and we’re guessing this year is going to be just as big, if not bigger.
The BILD Awards recognize the best work by the best builders, developers, designers, architects, and sales and marketing personnel. There are nearly 50 categories, and the finalists for the prestigious Home Builder of the Year Awards (low-rise and high-rise) still need to be revealed.
Winning any BILD Award is a testament to the excellence you bring to the GTA, but the most prestigious awards of the evening are easily the Pinnacle Awards, which include the two mentioned, plus Project of the Year (mid-/high-rise and low-rise), Best New Community (Built), Best New Community (Planned/Under Development), Green Builder of the Year, and People’s Choice Award.
The winners will be announced on April 28th. To see all the BILD Awards finalists, click here.
The Tarion 2016 Homeowners’ Choice Awards

Formerly the Tarion Awards of Excellence, the 2016 Homeowners’ Choice Awards recognizes the best in customers service. The thing that makes these awards stand out from the rest is that the winners are actually determined by homeowners.
“These awards have always been about new home buyers in Ontario and their level of satisfaction with their individual builder,” says Tarion President and CEO Howard Bogach. “Changing the name to the Homeowners’ Choice Awards simply reflects the importance of the customer’s experience in the new home buying process, and how each and every home buyer can have a say in whether a new home builder receives recognition.”
Tarion sent out surveys to 56,000 homeowners who took possession between October 1, 2014 and September 30, 2015. The survey included questions pertaining to the homeowners’ satisfaction from pre-sales to after-sales service.
“This year marks Tarion’s 40th anniversary of protecting new home buyers in Ontario,” adds Bogach. “Throughout the decades, we’ve witnessed home buyers having an increased impact on the new home buying experience based on the decisions they make. The Homeowners’ Choice Awards reflects the importance of their opinions, and champions excellence in customer service.”
There are considerably fewer awards handed out at the Homeowners’ Choice Awards, but it’s because all the awards are for customer satisfaction, it’s just split up into small, medium, and large volumes, based on the amount of possessions the builder or developer had in the last year. There is also a high-rise category.
The winners will also be announced on April 28th, so that will be an exciting day for a lot of people in the new home industry!
