BILD and Habitat GTA building 15th home together!

Habitat for Humanity GTA and the Building Industry and Land Development Association recently announced they will be teaming up again to sponsor their 15th Habitat GTA home.
In 15 years, 15 homes have been built for families in need of housing support. Since 2003, BILD has raised more than $1 million in support of Habitat GTA by hosting numerous events a year.
“Throughout its history, BILD has been a champion of housing affordability in the GTA,” says Ene Underwood, CEO of Habitat GTA, in a release. “We’re so proud to have BILD as a partner for 15 years in our mission of helping working, lower-income families realize the strength, stability, and self-reliance of affordable homeownership.”
This year, BILD is hosting five events with the goal of raising $80,000 to go towards building a new Habitat GTA home for the Bhuttooah family. This family of four is currently living in the basement of a townhome, sharing a single room.
“My wife and I have been sleeping on a mattress on the floor, which we need to tuck away in order to make space for our two young children to move around and play,” says the father of the family, Amreet Bhuttooah, in the press release. “We’ve had issues of cockroach infestations and the basement is poorly ventilated and at times we smell drainage from upstairs. We were absolutely thrilled to receive the news this year that we will be moving into a Habitat GTA home at their McLaughlin Road site thanks to BILD’s generous support.”
The new home is part of a 13-home project at McLaughlin Rd. North in Brampton. Over the last decade and a half, hundreds of BILD staff and members have volunteered to work on site and help build new Habitat homes. We’re sure there will be a few people from BILD at this site, too!

As Wilkes points out, Habitat GTA isn’t just about building affordable homes. It’s about providing a foundation so families have a sense of stability when planning for their future.
