Become a Part of Muskoka History at Lakeside Lodge

Did you know, when you buy a condo unit at Skyline Communities’ new development, Lakeside Lodge, you’re also becoming a part of Muskoka history?
In 1896, Charles W. Waterhouse opened a quaint summer retreat on a four-acre lot on Peninsula Lake. At the time, the retreat was only accessible by steamship and was widely sought after by elite Torontonians since it was the first resort of its kind on Muskoka’s northern lakes.
There were just 18 bedrooms, a dining room, a smoking lounge, and a verandah at the original resort. Guests paid $3.50 a week for access to the facilities, and this price included three meals a day! Whether the guests were playing a round of croquet, relaxing on the beach, or exploring the hiking trails, everyone always got their money’s worth.
Today, Deerhurst Resort spans more than 700 acres, and features several condo buildings, lodges, and sports and conference complexes. With the opening of Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course and the redesign of Deerhurst Lakeside Golf Course, this area of Muskoka became one of Ontario’s premier golf destinations.
In June 2010, the 36th G8 Summit was held on the Deerhurst grounds, hosting the likes of Barack Obama and Stephen Harper. Shortly after the Summit, the Deerhurst property became part of the SkyLine Hotels & Resorts collection.
