Bare Trump Toronto Penthouse Lists for Staggering $33 million

Setting high expectations, the ”Super Penthouse” at the Trump Toronto Hotel is listed for $33 million, but when you take a sneak peek inside you won’t believe your eyes.

With 11,755 square feet of prime Toronto real estate, located in the very core of the Financial District, this three-floor mansion in the sky offers a one-of-a-kind, panoramic view of the city. Complete with a 2,091 square foot wrap-around terrace, it’s not hard to envision lapping up luxury in this hot spot. Or is it? The Toronto Star got an exclusive preview of the unit, but photographs reveal a barren space, nothing quite like the one we’d imagined! The unit is still bare bones under construction, without floors, drywall or paint.

“It doesn’t make sense putting in all that marble first when the buyer might rip it out. At this level they want a very high level of customization,” says Mickael Damelincourt, the general manager of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto. Speculating on what kind of buyers will be interested, Damelincourt says that the unit will most likely attract foreign investors who are considerably accustomed to these kinds of prices for properties in other world-class cities and are looking to own a home for when they’re staying in Toronto.

If the suite sells for the asking price, it will make Canadian records for the most expensive condominium unit. Disregarding the cost the buyer will incur from designing and finishing the home, the buyer will still end up spending around $15,000 every month in maintenance fees, cable, internet and hydro.

“I can’t wait to see it completed, to see what kind of vision the new buyer will have for it. It is really an unbelievable space when you see the grandness, the height,” says Damelincourt. Though Damelincourt is confident that the suite will sell quickly, The Star reports that the condo and hotel sales in Toronto have been slower than expected, with many of the 118 residential condo units in the Trump Tower still sitting vacant. However, as Toronto fortifies its place in world-class city rankings, it’s possible that some savvy investor may snatch it up!
