As GTA commuters begin to familiarize themselves with the new HOV lanes, some people are actually getting excited about the coming of the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games! Recently, the Pan Am torch made its way through Markham, where President of Angus Glen Development and Kylemore Communities, Patrick O’Hanlon, as well as the President of the Angus Glen Golf Club, Cailey Stollery, carried the flame. Patrick O'Hanlon carrying the torch.“Angus Glen Golf Club is proud to be playing a role in bringing the world to Toronto, and being part of the excitement that surrounds this world-class event,” said Stollery, who arrived at Angus Glen (at 10080 Kennedy Road) with the torch in a golf cart driven by Olympian Nicole Forrester, a highly ranked Canadian high jumper. When Stollery arrived, the torch was passed to Lindsay Knowlton, a three-year member of the Canadian Women’s National Golf Team. Torch-bearer Cailey Stollery, driven by Olympian Nicole Forrester, is welcomed by City Officials, (from left) Councillor Alex Chiu, Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Councillor Amanda Collucci, Councillor Colin CampbellStollery was the perfect person to carry the torch through this leg of the relay because golf is making its debut at the Games this year, and the newly renovated South Course at Angus Glen is the host venue! During the torch relay, the ribbon to the South Course was cut, with Markham councillors, Mayor Frank Scarpitti, O’Hanlon, Doug Erwin, lead super at Angus Glen, Phil Marcoux, project manager, and many members of the Stollery family in attendance. The $6 million renovation has elevated the South Course to one of the most prestigious courses in Canada (and it was already up there as far as difficulty and beauty go). The renovation also included a Nike Pro-Shop, which is the first of its kind in the country. Angus Glen Golf ClubAngus Glen is no stranger to hosting world-class championship tournaments. In fact, it is the only club in Canada to host a national championship on each of its courses. The North Course hosted the 2007 Canadian Open, and the South Course hosted the 2002 Canadian Open. Angus Glen has also hosted the 2001 BMO Women’s Open, the 2001 Telus Skins Game, and most recently, the 2014 World Junior Girls Golf Tournament.Pan Am Golf will tee off on July 16 - what a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the beloved golf club!
