Adult lifestyle community Yee Hong Garden Terrace launches in Richmond Hill

When we heard that Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care was planning to launch a luxury condo residence geared towards senior living in Richmond Hill, we were very interested. So, we attended the official announcement and even got the chance to chat with Dr. Joseph Wong, the founder of the Yee Hong Centre and Order of Canada recipient.
“Yee Hong Centre has been expanding ever since we started,” said Dr. Wong. “We have spent a lot of years and time in perfecting our services. It is the right time to expand to Richmond Hill and this complete facility is of particular significance because it is in the heart of Richmond Hill and all that it offers.”

Located on Yonge, north of 16th Avenue, Yee Hong Garden Terrace is providing a lifestyle that is not currently offered in the neighbourhood. Truthfully, we’re not aware of any condo residence like this one anywhere in the GTA.
“Seniors today do not want to be put aside, they want to be right in the middle of the activity,” said Alan Hirschfield, President of High Street Richmond Hill Inc., the developer for the project. “This location is a big advantage for them. Many of their children and family also live in the immediate area and there is no housing of this kind to serve them.”
Yee Hong Garden Terrace will be steps from art and cultural venues, entertainment, golf and country clubs, movie theatres, banks, and parks. There are also many restaurants, cafes, and Asian supermarkets in the area, including T&T Supermarket.
“We have not had the opportunity to serve this community until now,” Dr. Wong said. “Yee Hong Garden Terrace Richmond Hill offers premium design, the most comprehensive services and state-of-the-art technology available for seniors to enjoy their lifestyle and live independently with all facilities geared for aging in place.”
Aging in place is the main philosophy behind the lifestyle at Yee Hong Garden Terrace. The services offered, types of suite features and finishes, and amenities are all designed to cater to seniors.
One of the most important distinctions between Yee Hong Garden Terrace and another condo building is that Yee Hong is providing the property management service. This makes it possible to offer nursing and other assistance services.
“Yee Hong Garden Terrace Richmond Hill provides the opportunity of creating a virtual narrative for the Chinese Canadian immigrant experience with the added challenge of designing for a user type that requires much more consideration and sensitivity,” says Johnson Chou, interior designer. “There are many needs to consider, including a population that will likely age in place, as such the interior elements of the suites must be considered in advance for accessibility.”
In the suites, Yee Hong Garden Terrace offers much of the features and finishes that you would expect from a luxury condo, such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and porcelain tile. There are also senior-friendly positioned light switches, one-piece acrylic showers with moulded seats and easy to reach controls, and very spacious kitchens. The kitchens actually have built-in steamers (upgrade) because it is an easier, safer, and healthier way to prepare food.
Dr. Wong also mentioned that every suite will come with a bracelet that can monitor the speed of the wearer in order to detect falls. Often, senior’s residences are equipped with call bells in case of falls, but they’re not always in reach and if the person faints, they can not call for help. When these bracelets detect a fall, an alarm is instantly sent to property management, allowing them to respond to emergencies within seconds.
The amenities at Yee Hong Garden Terrace are extensive, featuring guest suites, a library with gas fireplace, a Mahjong room, a multi-purpose hall with two indoor badminton courts, a common kitchen, a table tennis room, exercise and fitness areas, a theatre, an arts and crafts room, a seasonal outdoor tea room and greenhouse, and more!
