By Jo-Ann Capelaci on Sep 20, 2019Did you know that tracking fashion trends is a great way to forecast the next big thing in home décor? These tips will transform you and your home into a trendsetter among your friends.
Purple hues

Looking back at last year’s fashion trends, pink was all the rage. This year, designers across the board from Rodarte to Tom Ford are utilizing rich and romantic purple hues in their lines. You can incorporate a splash of purple with accessories or take the plum plunge and freshen up your walls with a new coat of paint. Either way, you’re sure to add elegance and warmth to your abode!
Silky satin

Silk is rejoining the fashion world through sexy and nostalgic pieces reminding us of the Versace ‘90s silk dress. Many fashion designers are pairing classic satin staples with colours, making satin a hit for the runway and real life! We can “fall” for satin in home décor by incorporating a rich satin headboard, for example, to add glamour and romance to your bedroom.
Animal prints

This is the year to whip out your leopard or tiger print! Inspiration for both interior design and the fashion industry can be found in nature. It can be seen through leafy themes of jungle greens or flirty pops of an animal print on your favourite armchair. Adding elements of nature keeps a youthful spirit and incorporates a bit of whimsy to any space. Use subtle animal print patterns for larger items such as carpeting or wallpaper.
Nuts about pistachio

Pistachio is a hue that has returned to fashion and is a staple on the runway this year. It is creamy and subtle, while still offering a punch of colour. Fashion designers are so in love with pistachio this year that it is being used as a monochromatic staple alongside your classic black and white looks. Incorporate pistachio in your home this fall for a comforting and fashion-forward design you’ll go nuts for!
Shine and glamour

The lamé trend is going to be one of the most festive trends yet! For those not familiar, lamé is a fabric with metallic threads of silver or gold. This bright, shiny, and happy fabric is full of glitz and glam and is taking over the fashion world. We can add shine in “threads” of silver and gold in our homes by mingling metallic hues. One way to do this is by utilizing interesting and unique metallic light fixtures or by using reflective surfaces like a mirror. Add a gold or silver lamé tablecloth for a low commitment décor introduction. When employing gold and silver to your space, feel free to mix and match the different metallic elements.
Flirty feathers

Feathers are everywhere this year! Designers across the board are loving the wispy flare of feathers to add a light and carefree element. From Prada to Valentino, feathers are being used as edging on dresses and full feathered garments. When searching for home décor this fall, add large scale feathers to fill your space with natural and simple beauty. Mix in other soft elements such as shag rugs and inviting throw blankets to make a heavenly space you and your guests will never want to leave.
Quilting

That’s right! Bring out those quilts you have been storing, especially the patchwork ones. Patchwork has been and will continue to be big on the runways this fall. Think about using quilts in new ways, like recovering a chair or using it as a sofa throw. If you do put your quilt on the bed, fold it down to create a layered look that is only a portion of the composition. The easiest way to add quilts to update your décor this fall is with pillows.
Checks and plaids

Checks and plaids can be fused into almost any home décor. Like their cousin the stripe, they have a way of balancing a room. Consider wallpapering a bathroom in plaid, or if you love plaid you can tile the shower!
