Last week, we went up to Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham to celebrate the groundbreaking of Kylemore Communities’ The 6th at Angus Glen.
Councillors, purchasers, planners, designers, and trades people all came out for the community’s milestone. A delicious breakfast of finger foods and waffle-ham sandwiches (amazing) was served buffet style at the Angus Glen Club House. A guitar player picked away while everyone mingled, nibbled, and posed for photos.
“I know we have some purchasers who are in the room, and those of you who are from outside of Markham, I welcome you to our great community. I know you’re excited to move into The 6th and excited to be a part of our city,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti.
“I know that this is a spectacular development, and in some ways, as great as everything has been up here, it sets a whole new standard. They are meeting all of our building standards, our design criteria, and actually surpassing them. This is going to be a spectacular place to live.”
President of Kylemore Communities Patrick O’Hanlon addressed the crowd next, explaining that they called this condo “The 6th” because in 2002 during the Canadian Open, it was the most challenging, and therefore most memorable, par 3 on the entire PGA tour.
“We decided to be a little risky and go higher than anything else. There are enough small-unit condominiums in the GTA. There are not enough end-user boutique condominiums that will increase in price because it’s one of a kind. That was the formula for our houses. Everyone told us we were crazy in 1997 to ask $1 million for a custom house backing onto a golf course north of 16th Avenue. Those homes are now selling for $3.5 million. Who is crazy?” O’Hanlon said.
“We went down and looked at the Ritz Carlton and Shangri-La in downtown Toronto. We brought that up to Markham. Watch, in two years, when this is built it will be one of a kind. Invest in this condominium, invest in Kylemore, we’ve never let anyone down.”
The available suites at The 6th reach up to 1,627 square feet, and floorplans span from one-bedroom+terrace to two-bedroom+den+balcony+terrace. Balconies and terraces play a big part at The 6th because outdoor space is very important for residential buildings situated on golf courses.
Some impressive interior features and finishes include 9’ and 10’ ceilings, premium engineered hardwood flooring, porcelain tiling, deluxe cabinetry, and sleek granite countertops.
