6 products that will change the future of architecture and design

The global innovation and design event, ARCHITECT@WORK, is making its North American debut in Toronto! The event will attract more than 1,000 architects and interior designers, showcasing the latest in North American and European technology and products.

Some of the new-to-market products and materials are completely new to Canada, so the event has the potential of transforming and influencing the architectural and design fields in a major way.

Here are six things to look for at the ARCHITECT@WORK event:

1) Graphic Concrete

As far as we know, there aren’t any developers or architects in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) taking advantage of this technology. Graphic Concrete is a company that creates a product that is “a membrane used in the prefabrication process of concrete.” You can either choose from a selection of pattern templates or a custom pattern can be designed. Buildings can have customized concrete facades! Imagine the impact this would make on Toronto’s downtown streetscape.

2) 3D Mesh and Imagic Weave

This is another creative facade based product by W.S. Tyler. The 3D Mesh allows for dynamic stainless steel mesh elements to be used in exterior or interior settings. The Imagic Weave is a combination of the 3D Mesh and LED technology, which turns a facade into a transparent platform for media communication.

3) Artis Coloured Washbasins

Sometimes a simple, minimal look and a splash of colour can make a huge difference in your bathroom. The Artis Coloured Washbasins by Villeroy & Boch are super sleek and come in 17 different colours, including shades of green, blue, pink, and yellow. People don’t usually think of the sink when they’re adding accent colours to the bathroom.

4) SmartControl Shower System

Here’s another one for your bathroom. The SmartControl Shower System by Grohe allows you to control the water flow, temperature, and outlet (out of two). There is a push start and stop and the temperature is adjusted in a fraction of a second. Who would’ve thought that showering could get more relaxing?

5) Water and Green Walls

It’s widely accepted that open and bright spaces can benefit your health and improve focus. That’s why everyone should be excited about the Water and Green Walls by C+P Furniture Systems. Based in Denmark, C+P focuses on improving air quality and minimizing sound in office and home environments.

6) Eggboard

Aside from energy-saving advances, the next step in lighting is sound minimizing. Eggboard by Artemide is a lighting solution based on sound-absorbing design, allowing it to eliminate echoes and sound in general. Imagine having this in your office or at home in the kids’ playroom!
