5 ways to freshen up your home decor this spring
By Jo-Ann Capelaci on Apr 29, 2019There is something about spring that boosts energy in most of us. We yearn for movement and improvement. Spring is the perfect time to implement changes to your home decor. If you are looking for a simple addition of a few new items, or you’re ready to tackle a larger project, here are five ways to refresh your home decor for the spring season.
Liven it up with potted plants

Winter can be a difficult season to keep anything green. Take advantage of the warmer months and rediscover your green thumb! If you have some plants that are looking a little tired, bring them to life by adding soil, dusting them off and adding fertilizer. Or purchase new pots and transplant them. Group various shapes and sizes of plants and pots to create an interesting corner in your room. Add them to end tables to soften your space. One of my favourite ways to accessorize with plants is to add an herb garden in the kitchen for good looks and function too!
Escape traditional dining seating

Bench seating is a popular option in dining room furniture. This spring, try switching out a few of your traditional single-seater chairs for larger style benches. The variety in seating will create an interesting composition and will also give a more custom appearance. Bench seating can make for more comfortable lounging after the meal, too. Incorporate a bold print to add extra flare to your dining room!
Add coral and be on trend
Living Coral is Pantone’s colour for 2019. Make a big impact and be on trend by livening up your space with colour. This spring, leap towards a coral hue to mix warmth and happiness into your decor. Coral is a unique colour that has the incredible ability to blend well with a variety of colours and styles. Paint a focal wall or update a piece of furniture in coral for a refreshing twist in your room.
Use lighter wood tones

Unfinished wood is making a breakthrough and helping facilitate a fresh, clean look. Do you have a lot of dark wood? Mix and match unfinished wood furniture with existing darker stained pieces for an eclectic look! Use natural wood frames for your artwork. These lighter wood tones look great with black accents.
Remove clutter

Adapt a less is more approach to feel lighter and refreshed! For your display areas, start by removing everything first. Then be selective with which items you showcase. Items of similar patterns, colours, shapes, and scale should be grouped together. One large scale piece is better than many little ones. Placing a few items in strategic locations creates a larger impact than having numerous items. For items that do not fit the colour scheme or theme, store them in beautiful baskets.
When tackling large or small projects, planning makes the task more efficient. Plan out your projects before you begin with a to-do list. Pinterest can provide inspiration, too.
