5 kitchen tips that will make you eat healthier

Is your kitchen in need of a complete remodel but the cost is holding you back? Don’t let the big picture distract you from the small details you can change today at little to no cost. Sometimes a space just needs to be reimagined in the way that it’s used. That’s why we put together a list of kitchen ideas that are easy on the wallet and will actually help you eat healthier!
1) Get a larger pan
Nothing lifts the spirits like a trip to HomeSense. If your stovetop can handle it, invest in a larger pan. Overcrowding the pan causes heat to be distributed unevenly and it’s difficult to keep the temperature where it needs to be. A larger pan will ensure your meat is cooked and you’re not burning the nutrients out of your meal.
2) Display food wisely
We eat what we see. A 2015 study suggests that obesity is linked to the tidiness of kitchen counters. Out of 210 households, they found that fruit displayed on kitchen counters was associated with lower BMI (body mass index).
If you must have unhealthy snacks on hand for Netflix nights, store them in opaque tupperware in cabinets without glass panels. While hiding junk food, you should display food you need to eat more.
You should also have beautiful storage for food like tomatoes, peaches, potatoes, onions, bread, garlic, and coffee because these things shouldn’t go in the fridge! The cold compromises the flavour, and if they taste bad, you won’t want to eat these healthy things.
3) Buy a smaller set of plates
We’re talking smaller in size and quantity. When a plate is large, we tend to fill it, even though we don’t need to eat that much food. Avoid overeating simply by using a smaller plate. Also, if you have less plates, dishes won’t pile up and you’ll be forced to keep everything clean on a daily basis.
4) Poach your eggs
Poaching your eggs is healthier because there are more nutrients in a runny yolk. It also cuts down on the oil involved in frying. In theory, poaching an egg is easy, but not everyone can do it, which is why there are handy egg poaching pods you can order off Amazon.
5) Shop seasonal
Go to more farmer’s markets or do more research about what’s in season. Seasonal food tastes better, it’s often more affordable, and sometimes it’s better for you if it’s locally grown! If you’re already planning to attend a Farmer’s Market this weekend, either get there super early or near closing time. If you get there early, you’ll have the best selection and beat the crowd. If you get there late, some vendors will offer deals to get rid of remaining items.
We hope these simple kitchen ideas help you maintain a healthier diet and distract you from that big kitchen remodel you’ve been dreaming of.
