By Lucas on Mar 03, 2016
It’s been an exciting week for Reid’s Heritage Homes. They received three EnerQuality Awards, as well as two Guelph and District Home Builders’ Association (GDHBA) Awards. Plus, Reid’s Heritage Homes now has four Net Zero homes for sale in Guelph!
For the EnerQuality Awards, Reid’s Heritage Homes won the inaugural Net Zero Builder of the Year Award, the Building Innovation - Low-Rise Award, and Best Green Marketing Campaign of the Year Award.
It came to no surprise that Reid’s Heritage Homes won the Net Zero Builder of the Year Award because they completed Canada’s first Net Zero home in the autumn of 2015. The Building Innovation Award recognizes technical excellence with regards to sustainable and energy efficient design, and the Best Green Marketing Campaign Award recognizes the builder’s excellent job at educating the public with regards to sustainable home design.
At the GDHBA Awards, Reid’s Heritage Homes won the prestigious Builder of the Year Award, as well as the Most Outstanding Single Detached Design Over 2,000 sq. ft. for their Net Zero Discovery Home in Guelph. The Net Zero home won this award because of its functional and creative floor plan, its overall appeal, and the innovative use of technologies and materials.
Four Net Zero homes for sale
According to Reid’s Heritage Homes, their Net Zero homes are 15 years ahead of where the home building industry is today, from a technological and public awareness standpoint. The Net Zero initiative is a countrywide demonstration project (NRCan in partnerships with Owens Corning) in which four other builders are participating. The goal is to prove that Net Zero homes can be built affordably on a community scale.
What’s so special about a Net Zero home? Depending on the occupant’s lifestyle, a Net Zero home should be able to produce just as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis! Reid’s Heritage Homes accomplishes this by using solar energy, efficient water and air systems, advanced building enclosures, and other efficient features.
Right next to the country’s first Net Zero home, Reid’s Heritage Homes has four more, and they are now for sale! Each home is around 1,700 square feet and features three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. The two-storey detached singles are on 30’ lots that are 105’ deep. Prices start at $506,000 and there are spring and summer 2016 closings available. For a limited time, the builder is offering discounts on these four Net Zero homes. Click for more details.
The four Net Zero homes offer high quality interior features and finishes that you would expect from a top rated home builder, and there are also many special features that make them Net Zero homes. A few examples include solar panels, 45% more insulation in the walls, attic, and basement, triple pane windows that reduce noise and drafts, high efficiency appliances and LED lighting, a drain water heat recovery system, and energy recovery ventilation, which serves as the lungs of the home, circulating fresh air.
